G’day, I am Ken and Welcome to SkyPerma – my permaculture, sustainability, and self sufficiency blog.
SkyPerma journals my progress to becoming more self sufficient in the Sky Garden, a 100 square meter roof top balcony in the middle of Adelaide city that currently houses over 500 different fruit trees, vegetables, herbs and other plants, as well as 5 strong beehives from which honey sales provide income for the project.
I am saving up to buy my very own permaculture farm, and one day will plant out everything from the Sky Garden into their forever homes.
Things that really drew me to Permaculture was the emphasis on efficiency, minimalism and self sustainability. I am a retired Engineer, and so my brain is wired to love efficiency and simplicity. Often, I find the simplest solutions are the best!
I personally love growing my garden, and exploring how I can use the 12 permaculture principles to boost my returns and become more self sufficient. Making a meal out of fruits and vegetables I have grown is incredibly rewarding – A few years ago I made the transition to a predominantly whole-food-plant-based lifestyle, and growing food has allowed me to become more in touch with my body and health.
Other than gardening my hobbies include cycling, cooking and writing.
Thanks for joining me on the journey, I look forward to learning and exploring our gardens together.
